How to fix it — step by step

1. Choose your new ISP and sign up
Sign up with the new ISP first. They will manage the transfer process. You don't need to cancel your old service first.

2. Your new ISP takes care of the transfer
Once you sign up, your new ISP lodges a transfer with NBN Co. This typically takes 1-3 business days.

3. Expect a brief interruption
On transfer day, your connection will drop for a few minutes while it switches over to the new ISP. This usually happens overnight.

4. Reconfigure your router
Once transferred, you'll need to update your router's login credentials to those provided by your new ISP. They'll send these with your welcome email.

5. Cancel your old ISP after the transfer
Wait until your new connection is confirmed working before cancelling your old account. Most old ISPs will pro-rate your final bill.
