NBN upload speed slow — affects video calls and file sharing.
Your downloads are fine but upload speed is much lower than expected. This makes video calls pixelate, working from home painful, and uploading large files take forever.
Tired of fighting your ISP? HIT Pacific — transparent pricing, no lock-in, real local support.
See our plansWhy this happens
- Your plan's upload speed is lower than the download speed — this is normal for most NBN tiers
- Fixed Wireless plans have a lower upload cap by design
- A line fault can affect upload more than download
- Your router is deprioritising upload traffic
How to fix it — step by step
-
1. Check your plan's upload speed
NBN plans list both download and upload speeds. A 100/20 plan means 100 Mbps down, 20 Mbps up. Upload is always lower — that's how NBN is designed for most tiers.
-
2. Run an upload speed test
Use speedtest.net and check the upload figure specifically. Compare to your plan's stated upload speed.
-
3. Check Fixed Wireless limits
Fixed Wireless plans cap at 25 Mbps upload. If you need more, this is a technology limit — not something that can be fixed by your ISP.
-
4. Upgrade your plan
If your work requires high upload (video production, large file backups, frequent video calls), consider an NBN 250 or 1000 plan with higher upload speeds, or an FTTP upgrade if available.
-
5. Log a fault if uploads are below plan speeds
If you're consistently getting less than 50% of your plan's upload speed, log a fault with your ISP — it may be a line issue.
Still having trouble?
If none of these steps resolve the problem, it may be an issue with your current provider. HIT Pacific offers transparent pricing, faster fault response, and local support.
