How to upgrade to FTTP fibre (if you're on FTTN or FTTC).

Why this happens

NBN Co is progressively upgrading copper-based connections to full fibre
Some upgrades are free; others attract a construction charge depending on your premises
Not all addresses are eligible yet — it depends on the rollout schedule in your area

How to fix it — step by step

1. Check your eligibility
Go to nbnco.com.au, enter your address, and look for an upgrade option. If eligible, it will show on your address page.
2. Request the upgrade through your ISP
You don't contact NBN Co directly. Ask your current ISP to lodge an FTTP upgrade request on your behalf.
3. Understand the cost
Most upgrades in the current program are free. A small number of properties require a contribution (typically up to $1,500) if significant construction is needed.
4. Plan the installation
An FTTP upgrade requires a technician visit to run fibre to your premises and install a new NTD (Network Termination Device). You'll need to be home.
5. Keep your current service until the upgrade is complete
Don't cancel your existing service before the FTTP upgrade is confirmed complete and your new NTD is active.
