See our plansWhy this happens
- Tower congestion during peak hours
- Line-of-sight obstructions (trees, new buildings)
- Weather-related signal degradation
- Antenna alignment drifting over time
- Tower maintenance causing planned outages
How to fix it — step by step
-
1. Check for tower outages
Fixed Wireless towers serve a geographic area. When one goes down, whole neighbourhoods lose service. Check your ISP's outage page first.
-
2. Check the antenna alignment
Strong wind or a knock can shift the roof antenna slightly. Even a small change in angle can drop signal. This requires a technician — don't attempt to adjust it yourself.
-
3. Look for new obstructions
A tree that grew, a neighbour's new shed, or a construction crane can block line-of-sight to the tower. If you've had a new structure appear near your home and speeds dropped at the same time, this is likely the cause.
-
4. Check signal level in your NTD
Some Fixed Wireless NTDs have a web interface showing signal strength. A signal below -80 dBm is weak and may cause instability.
-
5. Report persistent issues to your ISP
Fixed Wireless congestion on a tower is an NBN Co capacity issue — your ISP escalates it on your behalf. Document the times and speeds so they have evidence.
