See our plansWhy this happens
- Most NBN plans are month-to-month with no exit fees
- Some plans have minimum terms (usually 12 or 24 months) with break fees
- Your service runs until the end of your billing period
- Number porting does not apply to NBN — it's not a phone service
How to fix it — step by step
-
1. Check your contract for a minimum term
Log into your account or check your original sign-up email. If you're in a minimum term, calculate the break fee before cancelling.
-
2. Give notice before your billing date
Most ISPs require 30 days notice, though many will process it immediately. Cancelling the day before your billing date can avoid being charged another month.
-
3. Keep your service until your new ISP is ready
Don't cancel before your new service is activated. There can be a gap of days between cancellation and your new service going live.
-
4. Return any rented equipment
If your router or NBN box was rented from your ISP, return it within the required timeframe to avoid unreturned equipment fees.
-
5. Get confirmation in writing
Always get a cancellation confirmation email or reference number. Keep it — billing disputes are easier with written evidence.
